Polish new government

Leszek Miller, Prime Minister

Born on 3 July 1946 in Żyrardów, he graduated from the Higher School of Social Sciences in Warsaw with a Master's degree in political science.
He began his working career as a worker in the Linen Industry Works in Żyrardów, combining it with civic and trade union activity. He was a member of the Polish Untied Workers' Party from 1969. In the final stage of the party's existence he was a secretary and Political Bureau member thereof. As a secretary of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party he was actively involved in preparations for and the deliberations of the 'Round Table' -- an event of historic significance. He co-chaired the team in charge of youth affairs.
Leszek Miller was the founder and secretary general of the Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland (SdRP - 1990-1993), deputy chairman of the SdRP (1993-1997, and from the Third SdRP Congress (6 December 1997) the party chairman. At the First Congress of a new party, the Democratic Left Alliance (18-19 December 1999), he was elected its chairman.
He served as Minister of Labour and Social Policy (1993-1996), minister-chief of the Office of the Council of Ministers (1996); Minister of Interior and Administration (1997); chairman of the Socio-Political Committee of the Council of Ministers (1994-1997).
Leszek Miller served as chairman of the government side of the Joint Commission of the Government and Episcopate, was chairman of the Polish-American Commission to Combat Organized Crime and chairman of the Fifth Regional Conference of the International Labor Organization.
Upon a motion by the children of ŁódŸ he became a Cavalier of the Order of the Smile.
He set up the Foundation to Aid the Children and Schools of ŁódŸ. In 2000 he was honored by the Polish Division of UNICEF with the title of Ambassador of Goodwill.
He is married, with one son.

WŁODZIMIERZ CIMOSZEWICZ, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Born on 13 September 1950, he graduated from the Law Faculty of Warsaw University with a doctor's degree in international law. From 1985 he has operated a farm in Kalinówka in Podlasie voivodship.
He began his political career as an activist of the Socialist Youth Union and the Socialist Association of Polish Students. From 1971-1990 he was a member of the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR). In 1999 he joined the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). A member of the Sejm since 1989, in 1995-1996 he was Deputy Marshal of the Sejm and deputy chairman of the Constitutional Commission. From 1989 he has been a member of the Sejm Foreign Affairs Committee.
A Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice in the government of Waldemar Pawlak in 1993-1995, he served as Prime Minister from February 1996 to October 1997. From 19 October 2001 he is Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of Leszek Miller.
A scholar of the Fulbright Foundation in 1980-1981, he is a Cavalier of the Order of Merit of the French Republic and a Cavalier of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Greece. He holds honorary doctor's degrees from the Universities of: Appalachia and South Carolina.
He is married, with two children.
His hobbies are reading, tinkering, hunting and angling.
