From the US State Department letter to
Ambassador
Przemyslaw Grudziński
For centuries our two nations have
been closely linked by friendly relations, common values, and a highly industrious
Polish-American community. Even so, the President and the people of the United States of
America have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of solidarity and support from our Polish
friends in the aftermath of September 11. We were gratified and moved that our NATO allies
rallied so quickly and unanimously to our side, invoking Article V and later agreeing to a
number of specific collective responses we requested. And, we particularly appreciate the
Polish initiative in organizing the November 6 Warsaw Conference on Countering Terrorism
and Poland's offer of specialized units in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. u
