November 10, 2008 A seminar „Rising to the challenge of climate change globally and in the US" was held on November 10, 2008 at the prestigious Washington museum, Newseum. The seminar was hosted by the Embassies of: Poland, Denmark and France. The meeting offered an opportunity to present progress in preparations for the international climate conference, to be held in Poznan, Poland, at the beginning of December 2008. The participants of the seminar could hear the views from: Ms. Paula Dobriansky, Assistant Secretary General for Democracy and Global Affairs, Mr. Janusz Zaleski, Polish Deputy Minister of Environment, Mr. Marcin Korolec, Polish Deputy Ministrer of Economy, Mr. Thomas Becker, Danish Goverment's Chief Climate Negotiator, Mr. Brice Lalonde, French Climate Ambassador, Mr. Robert Orr, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Planning. The representatives from recognized Washington and New York based think tanks, among them Mr. Fredd Krupp from the Environmental Defense Fund, Mr. Elliot Diringer, from the Pew Center, Mr. Todd Stern from the Center for American Progress, Ms. Aimee Christensen from ACORE, also participated in the discussions. Climate policies of the states of California and Pennsylvania were presented during the seminar. Almost 300 representatives from the US administration, Congress, diplomatic corps, think tanks, academia and business took part in the seminar. The meeting offered a timely opportunity to discuss expectations toward the international climate negotiations and the prospects for developing transatlantic dialogue on climate and energy issues. |
